Kalamazoo may possibly lose its only 7-Eleven stores, as the company has announced that they plan on closing 645 stores during its 2026 fiscal year.

7-Eleven was once an empire throughout the 80s and 90s, making it the go-to convenience store to grab a Slurpee, a taquito, chips, nachos, and all sorts of other quick food items.

But with the acquisition and merger between them and Speedway, and now basically every gas station serving the same purpose, 7-Eleven as a standalone entity seems to be fading.

7-Eleven will now be focusing on converting many stores into wholesale fuel stores, which do not count towards their total count of convenience stores.

That’s according to a report from Fox 2, which says the total number of stores that will close is 645; however, the announcement does not detail which stores will be shut down:

Even with looming closures, 7-Eleven is still looking at some opportunities to expand. The company plans to add 205 convenience stores by the end of next February. The latest projections follow two previous years of negative growth in North America. The company’s numbers show there were more than 13,000 7-Eleven convenience stores across North America in the spring of 2024. By next March, that total is expected to have declined to 12,272.

The only stand-alone 7-Eleven stores left in Southwest Michigan are located at 8570 Homestead Dr, in Zeeland, 3155 Division Ave S, in Wyoming, 3726 Mt Olivet Rd & 3050 Oakland Dr in Kalamazoo.

That gives you an idea of just how scarce these shops are on the west side of the state.
