Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety pledges to continue to protect the public and takes steps to safeguard officers.

In a March 13 Facebook post, local law enforcement outlined their precautions for interactions with the public to prevent the spread of COVID-19. First, they rededicated themselves to public service:

KDPS would like to re-assure our community that we will continue to maintain a high level of service to the community and will continue our response to calls for service as usual.

The agency is also implementing measures to preserve the safety of officers.

Please be advised however that KDPS may be utilizing personal protection equipment (PPE), when needed, to ensure the continued safety of our first responders and to protect our ability to appropriately respond to incidents. Please note that this is just a safety precaution and please do not be alarmed if you observe this.

Lastly, as we've seen a lot int he last few days, events are being cancelled or postponed.

Additionally, as recommended by the State of Michigan, KDPS will be enforcing limited social distancing by suspending specialty events such as car seat installations, station tours and ride-alongs, until further notice so that our department can continue to focus our efforts on maintaining a high level of service to this community. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
