Recognizing that "women bring a unique set of skills to public safety work and are valuable members to the team," KDPS commends their contributions to the force.

In 2017, Karianne Thomas became the first female head of Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety. Today, Chief Thomas has a special message:

KDPS is an organization that values the unique skills females bring to the profession. So please, if you have a passion to serve the community we ask that you consider working alongside all our men and women as a public safety officer.
