Michigan Pet Owners The New Target Of A Scam That Could Cost You Thousands
One of the worst, most sickening feelings in the world is when your pet goes missing. Pets are not just there to keep us company, but members of our family, so when one of them disappears, it’s so hard to fathom what could have happened to them, and the only thing on our mind is getting them back home safe.
Which is why, when people take advantage of those who are already suffering with missing pets, it makes you lose faith in the human race a little bit more. That’s exactly what’s happening in Michigan as one animal shelter has recently taken to Facebook to warn customers of their animal shelter, that there is a new scam that could rip you off out of thousands of dollars.

Recently, Kent County Animal Shelter posted about this new scam and how these tricksters are using pet owners' pain against them.
Scam Alert! Scammers are posing as the Kent County Animal Shelter, mirroring our phone number, and contacting people who have posted about their lost pets. They claim your pet needs surgery and ask for payment over the phone. Do not fall for this! KCAS will never ask for money over the phone. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact us directly.
One person in the comment section of their Facebook post even had this happen to them
I had that happen to me back in August when my Zoey (RIP) was missing. Claimed to be an animal control officer for Kent County and "needed $250 for the upfront payment that the emergency vet requires" after he supposedly found her injured. Scammers prey on people in their darkest of times. -Paige H.
