Double down on this being a great night of music as American badass Kid Rock and the American band Grand Funk will play together at Soaring Eagle Casino.

Maybe the last time you saw Grand Funk Railroad was at Kalamazoo Ribfest in 2017. The night was some kind of wonderful as they rocked the stage at Arcadia Creek Festival Place. Now, once again in 2021, they're making a promise that they're coming to your town to help you party down. Grand Funk Railroad has just announced the Some Kind of Wonderful U.S. tour, and the Michigan date is pretty special.

The tour will see the band playing mostly outdoor shows this summer at amphitheaters, county fairs and festivals, with a few casino dates including Soaring Eagle in Mt. Pleasant. Blue Oyster Cult, the Guess Who and Little River Band are the opening acts for different dates on the trek but, as I said, the hometown show in Michigan is exceptional. Grand Funk will play as the opening act for Kid Rock.

  • Tickets: SOLD OUT

Grand Funk Railroad is no stranger to sellouts, having filled Shea Stadium to capacity faster than the Beatles. The July 9, 1971 show broke a fab record, selling 55,000 tickets in just 72 hours. Michigan audiences love Kid Rock, so it's no surprise this concert is a sellout.

I had the chance to talk with drummer Don Brewer in advance of their Ribfest concert in 2017. We talked about the drummer's 50 year friendship with bassist Mel Schacher, former KISS guitarist Bruck Kulick, Max Carl who wrote and sang .38 Special's biggest hit and former Silver Bullet Band player Tim Cashion. This is no random group of musicians, this lineup of Grand Funk Railroad has been together since 2000- longer than the original band!
