It’s always a bummer when your favorite restaurant closes down for financial reasons, but it’s way better than having to close down because things are in an unsanitary state. That’s exactly what is happening to one of Michigan’s most iconic restaurants.
Two of the biggest competing restaurants in the entire state sit within Detroit's busiest sections of town. The American Coney Island and the Lafayette Coney Island restaurants sit right next to each other and are constantly competing who has the better coney dogs.

Unfortunately, for fans who think Lafayette is better, there is a major rat infestation, which the chief public health officer, Denise Razo says needs to be addressed immediately:
As a result, an inspection was completed and Lafayette Coney Island has voluntarily shut-down until all violations are corrected, which includes a plan of action to prevent future violations.
Does this sway you from wanting to ever eat there again? Are you worried that some of the delicious corn meat that they cook up could contain the meat of Master Splinter’s nephew? Where are you still willing to take the chance for the sake of a Coney combo with fries?
This is the second time they’ve had to close down for failing an inspection since 2022, so maybe this closure will end their problems once and for all. A video had gone viral originally which showed toppings and didn't help keep the troubles away.
The entire interior of the restaurant will be cleaned properly and measures put in place to prevent this from occurring again. At least we know which one the rats prefer.
