Growing up on the east side of the state, it was definitely a heartbreaker when the news came out that Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights would be closing down for good and that renovations would soon be taking place that would completely change the entire landscape of the mall we once knew and grew up going to.
Since closing down in July, work has been made to try to outline what the new Lakeside Mall area will look like. To be fair, it will be less of them all and more of what they describe to be the Lakeside city center. The area will be comprised of five different sections within the area that used to encompass the mall, as Lionheart Capital announced.

According to a report from the Detroit News, the following are the names of the sections and what they hope to represent:
The Crossroads -  a neighborhood that supports a blend of suburban and urban lifestyles.
The Urban Green - a neighborhood that facilitates dynamic indoor and outdoor urban lifestyles.
The Lakeside Heart - a vibrant town center built on a foundation of culture, flexibility, and community growth.
The Suburban Retreat - a neighborhood that connects wellness to suburban life.
The Senior Social - a neighborhood that promotes active senior living lifestyles.

It was not uncommon to see senior citizens walking every morning at Lakeside Mall, so the city is planning on having the center be inclusive to them. Particularly there will be apartments that are designated for people 55 years of age or older, a hotel, and of course, the Central Park Area that the mall sat on.
You can get a full look at the plans and hear more about the master development plan at this link. Although the Lakeside Mall that we once knew is no longer here, I have no doubt that the finished project will be an attraction.
