Lakeview Middle School Dismissal Traffic In Battle Creek Explained

There is a particular road that gets seriously congested after school gets out at Lakeview Middle School in Battle Creek, and I’m curious if parents should be ticketed for blocking traffic.

It’s no surprise that there are a ton of kids who go to Lakeview Middle School, and every single day the parking lot behind the Starbucks and in the back end of Meijer becomes seriously congested.

The problem is that even though I understand that there are hundreds of children who get picked up every day, cars will line the road completely blocking the right turn exit onto Columbia Avenue.

At some point, people will even line up next to that line of cars blocking the right-hand lane, causing the left-hand lane to get blocked.

This seems to be a serious case of impeding traffic. I personally feel that any parent who stops their car and lines it against the road, which is a right-turn lane or a lane to continue straight onto 31st St., should be ticketed.

It makes no sense why there can’t be some kind of designated pickup loop in the back parking lot behind the Starbucks and the Bronson Healthcare building. There are more than enough parking spaces to accommodate, and if they simply created a driving loop with painted lines, it would accomplish the same exact thing except without blocking an entire lane.

I know it's a crappy rendering, but there's no reason you couldn't block off on of the entrances to the lot and paint a loop, where kids could get picked up from the patch in the grass.
