Vintage Treasures From Royal Oak Make It To The Big Screen
Leah Damiani, owner of Leah’s Closet in Royal Oak, was shocked when she saw the trailer for the new film “Song Sung Blue” starring Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman, when she noticed clothing that Kate Hudson was wearing.
It was clothing that came from her store, as she expressed to the Detroit Free Press:

When it came out, I’m watching it with my assistant and we were like: ’Oh my God, that’s from us. That's from us. That’s from us! That’s from us!
The film's makers indeed visited the vintage store and shopped there, pulling clothing from it that actually made it into the movie. It’s easy to think that they would just have designers come up with clothing in Hollywood, but it turns out they’ll go just about everywhere to find the perfect outfit.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the overall feeling of the movie seems to be split, with some people loving it...
If you're looking for an uplifting, family-friendly holiday movie - this engrossing, entertaining musical fits the bill - well, almost. Based on a real-life love story, it has its ups and downs - but Hugh Jackman & Kate Hudson are terrific! - Susan Granger SSg Sindicate
and others not too impressed:
The musical sequences are naturally where the movie shines brightest, but my goodness, the moment these Jackman and Hudson step off the stage, everything around the movie crumbles faster than a Lifetime movie. - Nate Adams, The Only Critic
Although Derek Smith from Slant Magazine was a little more blunt with his feelings of the movie:
Song Sung Blue is content to pendulum-swing from triumph to tragedy and back again with all the self-control of a drunk driver.
Regardless, it's awesome that Hollywood is supporting local businesses for their films, and hopefully, they'll continue to do so in Michigan.
