The artist-in-residence program offers free lodging at one of Michigan's most beautiful places in return for sharing your time and talent.

Writers, composers, sculptures, and visual artists including photographers are encouraged to apply for 2-3 week residencies from June to October 2019 on Mackinac Island as part of their artist-in-residence program.

The Mackinac State Historic Parks Artist-In-Residence Program is designed to promote and encourage the creation of artistic works inspired by the history, natural wonders, and beauty of Mackinac Island. The residencies are available to writers, composers, sculptures, and visual artists including photographers.

Creators, in return, promise to provide 2 forums: i.e. a workshop, lecture, reading, class, or demonstration, during their stay on the island and to contribute an original piece of their work within one year. The lodging is a studio apartment in the Mackinac Island Visitors Center; a building originally built as a Coast Guard Station in 1915. The view is inspirational, overlooking the Straits of Mackinac.

Applications are being accepted now, and a jury of representatives from Mackinac State Historic Parks, the Mackinac Island Arts Council, and the Mackinac Island Community Foundation will select the candidates.

Promise to bring us back some fudge if you get the position?
