Masks Are Now Required on Public Transit

Hopping on the bus, Gus? You'll need a mask. Under Gov. Whitmer's new executive order, it's no longer optional, but mandatory to wear one while on public transit.

Metro Transit in Kalamazoo reduced service beginning March 24 to combat the spread of Coronavirus and all fixed route buses were subsequently parked on April 2. They resumed limited service on May 18, encouraging passengers to wear a face covering. Now, that is no longer a request, it is a Michigan directive from the Governor.

On July 10, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-147, reiterating that "individuals are required to wear a face covering whenever they are in an indoor public space. It also requires the use of face coverings in crowded outdoor spaces." Further down the page it is explained that the order also applies, "when waiting for or riding on public transportation, while in a taxi or ridesharing vehicle, or when using a private car service as a means of hired transportation." The measure takes effect immediately and applies not only to Kalamazoo buses and transportation, but to all carriers and services in Michigan.
