The village of Mattawan may soon be getting an expansion to the existing greenhouse that resides at 52650 North Main St. at Dragonfly Gardens, according to a notice of public hearing from the planning commission of the Village of Mattawan.

The greenhouse is up for debate in a few weeks to determine whether it can legally be allowed to host private events, such as small weddings, according to a notice that was posted on the village of Mattawan‘s Facebook page.

Notice from the Village of Mattawan

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Village of Mattawan Planning Commission will consider a Special Land Use Request received from Pennzau LLC, to allow the hosting of small weddings and private events within the existing greenhouse and outdoor garden spaces at 52650 N. Main St., Mattawan property ID # 80-46-700-032-70 in the Village of Mattawan.

They went on to provide info on where the meeting would be held and at what time:

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the request will be considered by the Planning Commission at their meeting to be held on February 18, 2026 @ 7:00 PM at 24221 Front Avenue, Mattawan, MI 49071 for the purpose of receiving public comment regarding the proposed special land use. All interested persons will be given an opportunity to be heard.

The village of Matawan has always been protective of its small town community, so the addition of something like this will definitely be debated within the community.

Regardless of the feelings of the community, it’s clear that allowing people to choose the greenhouse as a wedding venue would bring in more money to the village from outsiders who would choose the venue for their wedding ceremony.
