Maya Simone Boyd, who was born and raised in Michigan, will now take on an iconic role in the upcoming reboot of the X-Men film series.

Boyd was recently announced at the D23 Disney fan event as a woman who would take on the role of Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm, in the 2028 X-Men film. Maya was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and began her career on the stage while she was attending the University of Michigan.

Eventually, in 2023, she made her Broadway debut in Merrily We Roll Along as well as the role of Juliet Capulet in & Juliet. She most recently played the role of Molly Cunningham in Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.

She earned her bachelor's in fine arts in musical theater from the University of Michigan and will now be making her silver screen debut in the upcoming X-Men series.

She’ll be joining a cast of well-known up-and-coming actors and actresses, including Inde Navarrette, who most recently saw massive success as the starring role in the horror film Obsession. She will be playing the role of Rogue.

Sadie Sink, who has gained fame through the Stranger Things series, recently made her debut as Jean Gray in the Marvel Studios Spider-Man: Brand New Day film. At the end of the fan event, it was revealed that Adam Driver would be playing the role of Nathan Millbury, who is more well-known as Mr. Sinister.

I’m really excited for the upcoming generation of X-Men and how the Marvel Cinematic Universe will finally be able to utilize my favorite Marvel comic. This will be an exciting time for this Michigan alumna as she prepares to make her movie debut.
