When it comes to eating out at a restaurant in Michigan, it’s hard to say what the best-kept secret is around the state. Michigan has built a culture of sharing some of the great places that are hiding in the small towns and villages across the state that need more recognition for the heart and love that they put into their food and atmosphere.

Recently a website called shaferbird.com compiled a list of restaurants they considered to be hidden gems, and the most underrated spots, and some of the all-around best places to eat throughout Michigan. There were a lot of spots located in Ann Arbor, Traverse City, and Detroit.

They also tiptoe over to the west side of the state and named places like the Root Beer, Stand in Kalamazoo, and The Southerner in Saugatuck as one of the most underrated places in the state.

There are so many different cultures and food inspirations in West Michigan, there is no doubt more than just these two that need recognition.
