It's more than just recreational marijuana and it's more than "no big deal." Drugs are a problem in Michigan.

Step 1 is admitting you have a problem. It's time for Michigan to face facts. Weighing drug use and addiction health issues and rehab and law enforcement, WalletHub concludes Michigan has the second worst drug problem in the country, trailing only the District of Columbia. Twenty-two metrics were measured, here's how our state ranked:

  • 16th – Share of Teenagers Who Used Illicit Drugs in the Past Month
  • 12th – Share of Adults Who Used Illicit Drugs in the Past Month
  • 10th – Opioid Pain Reliever Prescriptions per Capita
  • 15th – Drug Overdose Deaths per Capita
  • 20th – Share of Adults Who Needed but Didn’t Receive Treatment for Illicit Drug Use in the Past Year
  • 14th – Substance Abuse Treatment Facilities per 100,000 People (12 Years and Older) Using Illicit Drugs

While legalization may affect slight change in these figures, it's hard not to see that drug use (and abuse) has become an epidemic in Michigan.
