Michigan Needs To Brace For Snow, Ice, Thunder & Possibly More Tornadoes
The state of Michigan is currently going through an incredibly unique and dangerous weather pattern. Cities like Gaylord, Michigan, are in a state of emergency after strong ice storms have knocked down and snapped large trees like twigs.
The situation in Gaylord is a snapshot of the madness that Michigan weather will be facing. Michigan storm chasers have been keeping an eye on the weather outlook for today, and it doesn’t look great. Just south of Grand Rapids in Wyoming and pretty much everywhere south is at an enhanced risk for severe weather.

For those who missed the briefing last night, virtually every single model has much of southern Michigan in the warm sector, allowing for significant severe chances up through Grand Rapids and Lansing, except for the HRRR. This trend continues.
All of Grand Rapids through Cadillac has a slight risk. Also taking a look at the possibility of a tornado, luckily, most of the Lower Peninsula only has roughly between two and 9% chance of a tornado forming, but we all know how that can change dramatically.
As far as severe wind is concerned, Southwest Michigan in mid-Michigan has a probability of anywhere from 15 to 44% of seeing 74-mile-an-hour wind gusts.
There is also anywhere from 15 to 29% chance that there will be significant hail falling in the area with a diameter of 2 inches.
