There is a reserved parking space in Michigan for wounded veterans, and this may be a great idea for all major businesses to acknowledge. Recently, at a Lowe’s in Battle Creek, I was walking to my car and, looking down, I started seeing purple paint in the parking lot, designated for a specific kind of driver.

I don’t know why, but I’ve never seen this paint job before, because it’s not too common in the parking lots of major grocery chains. You regularly see handicapped parking, reserved parking for police, but the purple paint is designated for wounded veterans.

A closer look at the sign details the parking space, which is really something that should start being adopted in any major parking lot.

These were first revealed in the Battle Creek area 10 years ago after Hilliard Lyons sponsored the commission to install them initially at City Hall, the Department of Public Works, Full Blast, Willard Beach, the Intermodal Transportation Center, C.O. Brown Stadium at Bailey Park, and the Binder Park Golf Course.

But they've added more since, and as I'm still getting familiar with Battle Creek, this is the first time I've ever come across a spot like this.

Veterans, especially wounded veterans, need as much care and respect shown possible, and I don’t feel they get shown that respect nearly enough. It doesn’t take much to get a company to come out and put a couple of purple lines down for the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for us.

As far as I am aware, in Michigan, Lowe’s is the only parking lot that features these designated parking spaces for our veterans. If you have seen other businesses that have designated parking spots for them, let us know on the chat button on our app.
