It has been down year for not only the Detroit Tigers, but for their star Miguel Cabrera.  Despite the year he and his teammates have had, he was recently nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award.

According to Major League Baseball, Cabrera is among the 30 club nominees for the award named after Hall Of Fame Outfielder Roberto Clemente.  The Clemente award is given to the player that quote, "best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field".

The winner will be chosen by a panel that features people connected  to the game like Commissioner Manfred and representatives from baseball networks.

Fans will also get to vote for the overall winner from October 2nd through 6th.   More details on the voting will be posted at MLB.com.  You can also check here for more details on the award.

The recent winner was former Mets/Tigers and now L.A. Dodgers outfielder Curtis Granderson.
