Munising Falls Trail In Michigan Near Pictured Rocks Closed Indefinitely
Spring is finally here in Michigan, and people are eagerly waiting to go to the Upper Peninsula and take some time to take in its beauty. I myself am taking a week-long vacation there this month, and was looking forward to going to the Pictured Rocks; however, one location in particular may be shut down for quite some time.
The Munising Falls Trail will be closed indefinitely as the area suffered an unfortunate incident because of Mother Nature.

The Picture Rocks National Lakeshore recently published a photo on Facebook, showing the damage and describing what occurred:
An approximate 75-foot section of the paved trail was washed out the evening of April 28th from recent heavy rainfall and seasonal snow melt. As a result, there is currently no safe access point to view Munising Falls. Travel in the Munising Falls area is strictly prohibited to protect both visitor safety and sensitive natural resources.
Naturally, people are upset that this happened, and there are some people who are already offering their help to volunteer and clean up the area. One person offered a suggestion that may speed up the process of the falls trail opening:
Contact the park headquarters directly.I live near a small national park and they adore volunteers. They have regular trail maintenance and special projects like this. Usually the harder jobs like this do require NPS maintenance folks primarily but ask!
This is an unfortunate event, however, if the NPS does allow for residents to assist in the clean up, the trails will hopefully be open before we know it.
