Back in early January, there were rumors and reports that the national chicken restaurant chain Raising Cane‘s Chicken Fingers was raising an eyebrow when it came to the possibility of expanding into West Michigan.

Currently the only two nearby Raising Cane‘s Chicken Fingers. Restaurants are located in Mishawaka, Indiana, and in East Lansing, Michigan. So the possibility of them moving into West Michigan has been on the minds of a lot of people.

It seems as though that is the case, and Raising Cane‘s will officially be opening up shop in Portage. However, because Raising Cane’s is going to be moving in, they plan to demolish a mini strip mall, which is currently housing multiple businesses.

They originally projected the location on Westnedge and Millham Ave. It was only recently that it was shared on multiple Facebook groups, and the big changes were coming, including the original plaza where Raising Cane's wanted to set up.

The building will be bulldozed and places like Little Caesars Pizza, Roll-up Ice Cream and Eatery, and Betty Bella Braids would have to relocate. On top of that building being demolished, they're apparently looking to take down two properties nearby to make room for parking as well.

They are saying that Sunday, March 2 will be the last day of operation for the standing businesses in the plaza and construction is expected to begin shortly after. So if you're a supporter of any of the current businesses, you may wanna stop in to see if they plan to relocate to another location.
