A report from the Detroit News' Tony Paul says Western Michigan and Central Michigan will take their long, and sometimes ugly, rivalry to Ford Field this fall. An announcement is expected Wednesday morning.

Terming it the "second biggest" rivalry in the state, Paul is reporting that the Broncos and the Chippewas will meet at Ford Field sometime in mid October. It will be the first time the game will be play off-campus.

An interesting side note is this will be a Central Michigan home game, and thus they get the entire gate, etc.

How much of this has been spurred on by new CMU football coach Jim McElwain is up for discussion, but McElwain has coached in the SEC and Big 12, and according to the report, there will be numerous events in the week prior to the game tied to alumni and also prospective students.

If the game can pick up some national television exposure, it will be a good recruiting tool for both schools, who are both expected to be at or near the top of the MAC standings in 2020.
