A Boston Globe report says former Tigers television play by play announcer Mario Impemba may have really accomplished the proverbial "lemons in to lemonade" feat. The paper says he is joining the World Champion Boston Red Sox broadcast team.

This would almost qualify as a "stunning turn of events". Impemba's and broadcast partner Rod Allen's careers imploded late last summer when the two got into an altercation in the press box at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago. Both were fired after a suspension.

The Globe says Impemba would be part of a rotation of announcers joining long-time Red Sox voice Joe Castiglione on WEEI Radio.

According to sources with knowledge of the process, those expected to be in the mix are Will Flemming, who currently calls Pawtucket Red Sox games, and Mario Impemba, a longtime Tigers broadcaster who was fired — along with analyst Rod Allen —in September after an altercation in the booth. The Tigers have announced Matt Shepard will be the team's new play by play voice, joined by color commentators Kirk Gibson and Jack Morris.
