Starbucks Closing 250 Locations Nationwide, One Confirmed In Michigan
Michigan Starbucks locations are set to close as the company sent a letter out to its employees informing them that they would be closing down 250 locations, or one percent of their more than 18,000 North American coffeehouses.
In a letter that they shared with partners within the company, the reason they gave for closing them down was that they want to make sure all their Starbucks coffeehouse locations are places customers love and partners are proud to work for, but it goes a little bit deeper than that.

KGW8 put together the comprehensive list of all the stores that would be closing, and currently on the list there’s only one Michigan location; however, there could be more:
Manistee: 200 E. Parkdale Ave., Manistee, MI 49660
There are also rumors that the location in Houghton Lake, MI, is closing as well, even though it did not make the list.
In the letter, they noted that closing any coffeehouse is a difficult decision, especially since they continue to grow, as they are currently finishing uplifts on 1500 coffee houses:
We have carefully reviewed our North American coffeehouse portfolio and identified locations where we do not believe we can consistently deliver the experience we want for customers and partners, or where we don’t see a path to acceptable financial performance. As a result, we will close approximately 250 coffeehouses later this week. This represents approximately 1% of our more than 18,000 North American coffeehouses.
We will have to wait and see if more Michigan locations are added to this list.
