Kalamazoo Shelters Open Doors During Fierce Snowstorm Crisis
Currently in Southwest Michigan, we are experiencing one of the worst strings of snowstorms we’ve had over the last few years, and unfortunately, there are people in the city who are unsheltered and have nowhere to go but temporary shelters.
There’s one organization in Kalamazoo that is doing everything it can to get these people the necessities they need to stay alive and safe during storms like this.

Megan Giambrone is the cofounder and president of United for the Unsheltered of Kalamazoo, and in a conversation we had, she expressed just how vital it is that we help those in need in our community, and just how much we can accomplish if we band together:
Monday and Tuesday this week we were able to get permission from St. Luke’s Episcopal Church writing downtown Kalamazoo to open up a warming shelter both days. It started with me, just reaching out to the church and then once they give us a go, I spoke with several local organizations that we have reciprocating relationships with and food came in, warm gear came in.
As she continued, the efforts worked out great and showed just how many people's lives were impacted:
It really was just a testing ground for what we’ve said for years now that if the community and city and other agencies would be willing to open their doors to us, we can get it done and I feel like that’s what we did with this week.
They were able to raise $1500 on top of food and other items, which helped 150 people on Monday and 125 on Tuesday.
