The 5 Craziest Tourist Traps in the Midwest
If you're looking for a long weekend road trip for the whole family this summer, here are 5 unforgettable moments waiting to happen.
Finding something fun, interesting, and off the beaten path for a quick road trip is surprisingly difficult. While attempting to make plans for a 3-day weekend road trip I found a handful of disturbing, I mean, unusual tourist traps in the Midwest...and you're not going to believe they're real.
The 5 Craziest Tourist Traps in the Midwest
The World’s Largest Collection of Smallest Versions of Largest Things in Lucas, Kansas
Why travel the globe to see the world's largest things when you can visit downtown Lucas, Kansas to the World's Largest Collection of Smallest Versions of the Largest Things? Yes, this is a real place.
Nuclear Waste Adventure Trail and Museum in Weldon Spring, Missouri
Weldon Spring, Missouri was once the home of a plant that refined uranium for Cold War nuclear bombs. According to RoadSideAmerica.com they entombed 1.48 million cubic yards of PCBs, mercury, asbestos, TNT, radioactive uranium and radium, and contaminated sludge and rubble...and now you can hike on top of it.
The Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio
This historic prison was built in 1886 and closed down in 1990. You can have a professional tour guide or wander this spooky place on your own

Carhenge in Alliance, Nebraska
Nebraska is nothing but cornfields and cars perfectly stacked to copy Stonehenge. In 1987, an artist decided to pay homage to Stonehenge and created this surprisingly popular tourist attraction.
Leila's Hair Museum in Independence, Missouri
Just a building full of hair art...nothing creepy here. The founder of Leila's Hair Museum started collecting hair in 1956. Her museum has made an appearance on a handful of television shows. I hate to tangle your travel plans but this one-of-a-kind hair museum has recently permanently closed.
