Peter Mayhew, known for his role as Chewbacca in the Star Wars films, passed away last week.  I was lucky enough to have met him briefly back in 1997.

I got to know a fellow student in one of my media classes at Lansing Community College.   He actually owned his own action figure business and was going to have a booth at the Motor City Comic Con in Novi.

He asked if I had any interest in going and I said sure.   Because I tagged along, I got out of having to pay the full entrance fee.   The only downside is I had to hang out for the entire day.

Tons of merchandise through out the building kept me busy for the day.   I was also hooked up with a couple figures, one of Chewbacca and the other Darth Vader.

I needed something to be signed as both Peter Mayhew and David Prowse (wore the Darth Vader costume in the films) were in attendance.   Both actors were sitting next to each other and I remember Mayhew wasn't happy as they had him in a small chair.

He was cool to the fans though and for the short time i had for him to sign my figure he was nice saying thanks for stopping by.

Chewbacca has been one of my favorite characters in the films and I am glad  that I got to say hi to the man who helped bring him to life.
