This Is What Michigan’s Lake-Effect Snow Looks Like from Space

Is it a snowpocalypse? The Great Lakes look magnificent as seen from orbit during this Winter storm.

In West and Southwest Michigan, we know all too well what "lake effect" snow looks like on our streets and in our driveways. Take a look a this incredible satellite photo showing a storm from outer space

Lake-effect snow forms when cold air passes over the warmer waters of a lake. This causes some lake water to evaporate into the air and warm it. This warmer, wetter air rises and cools as it moves away from the lake. When it cools, it releases that moisture and, if it’s cold enough, that moisture turns into snow.
