The Detroit Tigers were able to put together their best hitting day against the Minnesota Twins, but the visitors brought their sticks against the home squad's pitching Thursday afternoon.

The Tigers took the earlier 2-0 lead over the Twins, but Minnesota would score the next 11 runs over four innings in a 11-5 rout at Comerica Park. The Tigers were unable to sweep the Twins in their three-game series, with Detroit ending their season-opening homestand with a 5-2 record.

Miguel Cabrera and Justin Upton each hit their first homers of the season for the Tigers. Upton and Jose Iglesias each drove in two runs in the loss, and Jacoby Jones had two hits as part of the Tigers nine-hit day.

Pitching on the afternoon was a different story. Jordan Zimmerman (1-1) allowed five runs in just 4 2/3 innings to suffer the loss for the Tigers. Anibal Sanchez gave up the remaining six in just 1 1/3 innings of relief, including homers to Miguel Sano and Max Kepler who each drove in three runs for the Twins. Joe Jimenez made his Tigers debut in relief, earning a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth and striking out one.

The Tigers make their way to Cleveland to begin a three-game series with the defending American League champion Indians. Daniel Norris will start for the Tigers in the opener Friday, while the Indians will send out Trevor Bauer. Catch the action Friday night at 6:45pm on 95.3 WBCK!
