Weko Beach Crowned North America’s Top Public Campground

There is a campsite in Michigan that has been officially named North America’s #1 public campground.

Michigan is known for the money campsites across the lower Peninsula and the upper Peninsula that allow you to take in all of Michigan’s beauty. However, one campground has stood above the rest, according to the 2026 Campspot Awards.

Weko Beach Campground in Bridgman, Michigan, took the top honor in what they describe as the perfect setting to relish all of the beauty that Lake Michigan has to offer.

Weko Beach Campground offers a sandy shoreline on beautiful Lake Michigan! Including 68 campsites, and 11 rustic cabins where you can enjoy your stay just minutes from the beach. Spend the day swimming, kayaking, or boating and finish with a spectacular sunset over Lake Michigan! They offer a seasonal boat launch, kayak rentals, picnic areas, and a playground. Spend the evening at Tanner Creek onsite or head over next door and check out Warren Dunes State Park for impressive views and hiking trails.

Also appearing on the list was the Gladwin City Park and Campground in Gladwin, which was number three for the top public campground.  Munising Tourist Park Campground in Munising was number two for the top mid-size campground, as well as Willow Shores Campground in Union, Michigan, which came in fourth place as the top campground for tent camping.
