What used to be seen as a very European means of conveyance, mopeds and scooters have been gaining popularity over the last several years in the United States, especially in large cities. They are easy to park, incredibly environmentally friendly, and are the perfect prop for your Roman Holiday cosplay. If you've been thinking about investing in one of these beauties to make trips to the beach, runs to the store, or your daily commute much more energy efficient, have I got news for you. Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries is auctioning a Zoom Scooter off at their second hand store, Simple Treasures on Westnedge. Fully electric, the scooter retails for $2,400, can go up to a 60 miles on one charge, and tops out at 30 mph. Perfect ride for tooling around downtown.

To get the skinny on the scooter, I reached out to KGM Vice President of Advancement, Lynn Russcher about the auction. "We wanted to create some excitement and get people to stop in and see our thrift store on Westnedge," she said. "100% of the proceeds go to support the Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries." And they are WAY more than just a soup kitchen. The KGM provides shelter, daycare, skills training, and so much more to some of our most vulnerable residents. Every purchase from Simple Treasures, or Rescued Treasures on Burdick, benefits all the programs at the KGM. Russcher also shared a bit of great news for bargain hunters. "Simple Treasures and Rescued Treasures, in addition to their super Saturdays (which is 50% off storewide on the 1st Sat of the month), they will also be running a Holiday Extravaganza (an additional 50% most items) on the third Saturday as well for you to get a jump on your holiday shopping and save some extra money."

The drawing for the scooter will be held at Simple Treasures, 3721 s. Westnedge, on Saturday, December 5th at 9:00am with an opening bid of $1,500.
