WMU’s Renovated Presidential Suite Feels FAR Out of Place at Waldo Field

Most people's experience at a Western Michigan Football game is on a hard bench, in the stands, shoulder to shoulder with other Broncos fans, cheering on the team. in the winter, obviously you need a little more space for the extra layers of clothing, but for the most part... it's not exactly luxurious.

That being said, if you're lucky enough to find yourself in the press box, things changed pretty quick. In fact, if you are REALLY lucky, you'll find yourself in the President's Suite, which just got a HUGE upgrade, and I swear to you, it looks like the most "it" coffee and sandwich shop you'll ever see.

For context, I don't think this space isn't cool. It really is nice, and a refreshing space in a stadium that's mostly pretty basic, and simple. But I'm also one of those people who doesn't need much when it comes t my football experience. Gimme a seat, beer, and a game, that's it.

But for some, they need more, and that's fine, so a suite area, a club space like this can be pretty cool, so I was excited to see what they'd bring to the table.

Turns out, it was a coffee shop/juice bar vibe.

MLive posted a gallery of the newly renovated space, and for $3.6 million spent on it, I kind of expected more.

Maybe it's just me, but if I'm going to a game, I want to be in a game environment. Put player memorabilia and photos on the wall, every seat should be facing a TV or the field, and it should feel like, despite the fact that I'm actually at the game, I'm also at a hometown Buffalo Wild Wings, too.

But this.... is not that vibe. I only see a few screens, and the furniture all looks like it belongs in a doctor's waiting room. Additionally, the "bar" just looks like a juice bar. I'm at a football game, not ordering a kale smoothie.

Again, to each their own, I'm sure the people who utilize this space will like it a lot. But if given the choice of this room, or the cold, metal benches... put me in the stands with the other Broncos fans in hoodies and puffy coats!
