2004 Brawl at the Palace Featured on New Netflix Show
It's crazy to think that it's been over 15 years since the brawl at the palace otherwise known as "Malice at the Palace." I remember watching the game and seeing it on TV at the time and thinking "what the heck is happening right now?!... Is this real life?!" My family used to have season tickets to the Pistons that year too so I was especially upset we weren't at that game to witness it in person LOL.
But we get to relive that night from 2004 all over again in the new Netflix docuseries, UNTOLD, premiering August 10th. The series will span over five 80-minute episodes., taking a behind-the-scenes look at major (controversial) moments in sports history. Netflix just released the trailer for Vol. 1 which will tell the story of went went down that evening at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
Former Indiana Pacers player, Ron Artest, is featured in the documentary talking about how things went from bad to wors. In case you need a refresher, Artest had fouled Ben Wallace which resulted in them getting into a heated argument and having to be separated. By the team's bench, a fan from the stands then threw his drink at Artest. That's when chaos erupted. Players and fans were fighting and punches and chairs were getting thrown. You can see the incident go down in the video below. The actual fight starts around the 16-minute mark.
The Detroit Free Press says that ten people were charged total, including the man who threw the drink and served jail time. Five fans were banned for life from the Palace and Artest was suspended for 86 games.
The "Malice at the Palace" will be the first documentary to kick off the series airing on August 10th. Caitlyn Jenner will also be featured (August 24th) and her rise to Olympic stardom, but how she struggled with living her true self.
