With one year before the Gordy Howe International Bridge is set to open, connecting the United States to Canada, the Ambassador Bridge has once again announced that rates are going up in 2026, which has been a growing trend since 2021.

That was the last time there was any consistency to the tolls that were due while crossing the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit. Here is what the toll increase will look like for the new year.

In 2026, it will cost $10 for cars, buses and motorcycles to pass over the bridge using cash, credit card, Premier or EZPass. These changes are set to go into effect on January 1. For CAD, it will cost $14.

However, buses, cars and motorcycles with trailers will cost $20 US or $28 Canadian.

This has been a growing trend since 2019, when prices were increased originally. Between 2019 and 2021, it cost five dollars USD to go from America to Canada and $6.25 Canadian to travel into the US.

In 2022, it cost six dollars USD and eight dollars Canadian.

In 2023, it increased again as it went to seven USD and $9.25 Canadian.

In 2024, it jumped to eight dollars USD and $11 Canadian.

Then, on January 1 of 2025, it bumped up yet again to nine dollars USD and $12 Canadian.

That’s a five-dollar increase over seven years in American money, so you can imagine the amount that’s been made with just the increase alone. Hopefully, the Gordie Howe International Bridge has a little bit fairer pricing and brings the overall cost down, once they finally announce the toll rates for the bridge.
