Thunder Hogs: A New Name Rooted In Battle Creek Pride
The Battle Creek Battle Jacks have announced an alternative name going forward, as they will be occasionally referred to as the Thunder Hogs.
It’s been a growing trend in the Northwoods League that teams will give themselves alternate identities. The Kalamazoo Growlers did this a few years ago when they announced that they would also be operating under the alternative name of the Mac Daddies.

But it’s not just the name that is being altered; the location as well as the official name will be the Southwest Michigan Thunder Hogs, as they announced on their website:
The Southwest Michigan Thunder Hogs are more than a jersey, logo, or theme night. They are a tribute to the people, history, grit, military heritage, and baseball culture that helped shape Battle Creek and the greater Southwest Michigan region. Built from Battle Creek’s aviation legacy and inspired by the legendary A-10 Thunderbolt II, the Thunder Hogs represent toughness, resilience, and the blue-collar mentality that defines Southwest Michigan.

Why Did The Battle Jacks Choose Thunder Hogs As Their Alternate Name?
The name “Thunder Hogs” is inspired by Battle Creek’s deep connection to the legendary A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft operated by the 110th Wing. “Thunder” comes from the aircraft’s official name: A-10 Thunderbolt II. “Hogs” comes from its iconic nickname: “Warthog.” More than a mascot, the Thunder Hogs identity honors the toughness, resilience, and military heritage that helped shape Battle Creek and Southwest Michigan.
