Did You Know The Big Mac Was Invented By Someone From Michigan?
There are a lot of amazing restaurants and food companies that were born here in Michigan. When you think of places like Little Caesars, Jets Pizza, and Buddies Pizza, you realize just what a stranglehold Michigan has on the national pizza scene.
Then you have to consider that there are way too many amazing locally owned businesses to name, which could very well be national businesses themselves. But Michigan has a way of dipping its toe into all sorts of national products, including creating one of the most iconic burgers in fast food history.
Did you know that Michigan has ties to McDonald’s Big Mac? It’s true. In fact, it was Created with the help of a guy who graduated from Michigan State University.
Recently The 'Gander Newsroom Facebook page shared a brief look into this sandwich's history, showing MSU’s impact on one of the most famous burgers in fast food history:
In 1967, MSU alum Michael “Jim” Delligatti introduced the “Big Mac Super Sandwich” at his Pennsylvania restaurant. Its two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions on a sesame seed bun quickly became a hit, spreading across his 47 franchise locations before McDonald’s added it to their national menu.
Delligatti, who graduated from the MSU School of Hospitality Business, was inducted into MSU’s Alumni Association Wall of Fame in 2006.
