Bookstore to Reopen at Kalamazoo Public Library
Are you reading more than ever these days? Get some new books cheap as the Friends of KPL bookstore is reopening soon in the basement.
The Friends Bookstore is one of Kalamazoo's hidden treasures and one of my favorite places to shop. Where else can you get a hardcover bestseller for $1? They have hundreds of books in every genre from fantasy to mystery, romance, adventure, poetry, science fiction, reference guides, history, humor and more. Add CDs and DVDs at lower than pawn-shop prices and you have a shopping experience that is unmatched for a bibliophile.
Located in the basement of the Kalamazoo Public Library's central branch on S. Rose St downtown, the store has remained closed even though the library has slowly begun to reopen. Now, the staff has a plan to target reopening of Friends of KPL Bookstore.
All of the materials on our shelves have been quarantined, and are ready to buy. Our front desk will sport a new Plexiglas shield, masks will be required, and we will practice social distancing in the store. Our volunteers will keep our “high touch” areas disinfected at all times, so that you can shop with the assurance that the store and our inventory are clean and safe.
They encourage social distancing and will be limiting store traffic and encourage you to bring your own bag. Also, the popular "Bag of Books" sale will not be happening in June due to the interruption of COVID-19 and they are not yet able to accept donations. Watch the Friends of Kalamazoo Public Library Facebook page for the exact opening date and get some new books in your life.
