Movies in the park has been moved from Celery Flats to Ramona Park where fans will watch Star Wars and Frozen sequels from the comfort and safety of their cars.

At the end of April, the City of Portage announced their free summer movie series. The plan was fun, food trucks and five free summer movies at the historic Celery Flats. Like most of 2020, that plan has since changed.

The lineup is the same. Movie fans still get to see Frozen 2, Jumanji: The Next Level, Star Wars:The Rise of SkywalkerDetective Pikachu and Onward, it is the location that has changed. Instead of Celery Flats, the movies will now be screened at Ramona Park. Moviegoers will park on the football fields and the movies will be shown on a big screen, just like at a drive-in theater, and you listen on the car radio. The City of Portage plans to have food trucks (to-go only, with no seating areas) and no other concession sales available. Families are encouraged to bring their own snacks and, because admission is free, there's no need to hide anyone in the trunk to sneak in.

I don't want to spoil anyone's fun here, but what's the difference between these movies and an actual drive-in? The Capri Drive-In of Coldwater has petitioned Governor Whitmer to open but so far, has been denied. They have come up with a plan to safely operate or even close concessions and manage crowds and police restrooms.

Hopefully, by June, things look good for some outdoor family fun at the drive-in!
