Michigan parents need to reconsider the idea of getting their children electric bicycles after a nurse has gone viral, urging parents to rethink gifting or purchasing electronic bikes after the number of injuries she has seen come through the doors.

Electric bikes are becoming very popular as a mode of transportation for young adults, as they can pick up some high speed; however, they are still only viewed as normal bicycles to these kids, who can find themselves in a very real-life situation when in an accident and not properly equipped with the right safety equipment like a helmet.

In a viral video and nurse expressed her concern for the products:

Don’t buy your kid an e-bike. If I could get parents any piece of advice right now, it would be don’t get an e-bike for your child. The consequences to e-bike accidents are life-changing and deadly, and honestly, kids should not be riding them or at the very minimum they should be wearing a helmet, so please just buy them. Thank you.

A normal bicycle for a fast rider can get up to 10 to 15 miles an hour, but that requires a lot of endurance, and eventually you will tire out from pedaling that fast.

But a street-legal electric bike has top speeds between 20 and 28 mph, depending on the motor, battery size, rider's weight, and other features.

Recklessly driving one of these can lead to serious injuries, and only experienced riders should be using them, who have a basic understanding of the rules of the road.
