Just before midnight, Kalamazoo firefighters were dispatched to the downtown building that formerly housed Rupert's Brew House and the legendary Boogie Records. According to an article from MLive, the fire was quickly under control within fifteen minutes of emergency response's arrival and extinguished. It is unclear what the extent of the damage is at this time, and so far a cause of the fire has not been determined.

The latest business to take up residence in the historic building, Rupert's Brew House, operated for six years before closing its doors in September 2019. Long time residents and music lovers will remember the location as Boogie Records, a popular music store that operated from 1972 to 1995. The unusual Tudor-style architecture is certainly unique amid the surrounding buildings, but seemed perfectly suited for the building's original business, Oakland Pharmacy.
