You've probably already heard the news; one of the most iconic brands in American history, Sears, is filing Chapter 11. This little-company-that-could has been around since the 1880s and started with their now famous mail order catalog. It took a little while for the company to expand, but by the 1950s they were the biggest name in the game, a giant among retailers, pushing a lot of their competition out. But recently the company has experienced losses that they cannot ignore. Sears Holdings is expected to close 142 of their stores, including four right here in Michigan; Charlevoix, Lake Orion, Ann Arbor, and Lincoln Park. No news yet on what this filing could mean for the Portage Sears Outlet or the Crossroads Mall location.
