What began as a roadside stand in the 1930s by Nona MacKenzie and Henry Woods, a much beloved Kalamazoo bakery is up for sale. 71-year-old John MacKenzie, grandson of founder Nona MacKenzie, says that, even though it's time for him to retire, he'd hate to see the bakeries disappear. Over the years the company boasted three locations in Southwest Michigan, a Portage location that closed last year, and two Kalamazoo storefronts (Harrison Street and West Main Street), both of which are listed at a combined $1.3 million, according an article from MLive. Both locations come complete with all the fixtures, furniture, and equipment, which is great news for a local pastry chef looking to continue the tradition of artisanal breads, cupcakes, donuts, pastries, and other fine desserts in Kalamazoo. How about it? Ready to bring your sweet dreams of owning your very own bakeries to life and continue a great Kalamazoo tradition?
