Jack White Proposes AND Gets Married Onstage at Detroit Concert
Friday was quite a day for Michigan native Jack White.
His new album came out, he played the National Anthem at Detroit Tigers Opening Day, he kicked off his Supply Chain Issues Tour in his hometown...
Oh yeah, and he proposed and got married at the show!
According to the Detroit Free Press, White invited his girlfriend Olivia Jean onstage to join him about 80 minutes into the set at the Masonic Temple.
Also a Detroit native, Olive Jean is a singer-songwriter and a member of Black Belles trio on White's label Third Man Records. Black Belles had opened up the April 8th concert.
Olivia Jean joined White and his band in a performance of "Hotel Yorba"... and as the Detroit Free Press reports,
Before the song's "let's get married" lyric in the third verse, something seemed afoot. White headed to the side of the stage, gesturing to his assistant Lalo Medina to begin videoing on his cell phone. The music dropped.
"I've got a question for you," White said to Olivia Jean. "Will you marry me?"
White pulled out a ring for the overwhelmed Olivia Jean, who signaled a gushing yes. Her face tear-streaked, she helped finish the number before White carried her offstage to the buzz of guitar feedback.
How's that for a proposal?!
But then, the freshly engaged couple topped that, if you can believe it!
During the encore, the pair returned to the stage tied the knot in an onstage wedding ceremony officiated by Third Man's Ben Swank.
According to the Detroit Free Press,
Their respective bass players were the best man and maid of honor, while members of their families, including White's mother, Theresa Gillis, stood by.
What a special night! Definitely one to remember for everyone in attendance. Congrats to the happy couple!
White will play a second show at the Masonic Temple Saturday before heading to Grand Rapids to play at Van Andel Arena on Sunday. I wonder if he has any more surprises in store for us in GR?
