Embezzlement Accusations Hitting Former Kalamazoo Strong Staff
However, they might have been the victim of an embezzlement scheme by a former volunteer. Kalamazoo Strong this week on their website said that they learned of financial irregularities in December 2016, and went to the police shortly after; they stay they stayed silent to protect the investigation.
WWMT reports that last week, Kalamazoo County authorities obtained a warrant for 34-year-old Rachel Kaiser, after they believe she embezzled over $3,500 from Kalamazoo Strong by creating a credit card connected to the organization’s PayPal account. That card was reportedly used at places like restaurants and jewelry stores.
Kaiser was also a volunteer with the Kalamazoo Cobras basketball team, and they say they were victimized as well, so badly they had to shut down operations; as much as $10,000 could have been stolen from them.
While there is a warrant out for Kaiser’s arrest, it is unclear when she might be taken into custody and arraigned on embezzlement charges.
Rachel Kaiser appeared on the 95.3 WBCK Morning Show in the summer of 2016, and it's not clear if the alleged crimes were taking place then; at the time she said "every penny we raise goes right back out into the community." You can watch that interview below.
