Not familiar? Think of bluegrass and metal music merging. Now you get it. Thrash Grass is also the name of an album from a band out of Leonard, Michigan called The Native Howl.

The band's bio on the No Cover contestants page reads as follows,

The Native Howl is an American band from Leonard, Michigan. Their 2016 release of "Thrash Grass" unleashed the newly-coined genre of the same name, combining the aggressiveness and intensity of thrash metal with the melodicism and precision of bluegrass. The band has toured 45 of the 50 U.S. States, as well as Canadian dates. Among the highlights were the Rock Legends Cruise with Roger Daltrey, Kansas, Buddy Guy, and more; as well as performing The National Anthem before The Chicago Bulls' game at United Center in Chicago.

The band along with Detroit's own Josie Pace, are both competing in a new music competition reality show called 'No Cover'. The unique thing about this particular show is no bands or artists competing can perform cover songs (hence the name, No Cover). All the music we hear on the show will be original. How refreshing is this?

The anticipation for this show has been high, luckily we don't have much longer to wait to watch. 'No Cover' premiers this Wednesday, April 20th, on YouTube. You can check out a trailer for the show below, it looks awesome.

As with any competition, there are judges, and 'No Cover' features some really big names. In no particular order, they are as follows,

  • Lzzy Hale (Halestorm)
  • Gavin Rossdale (Bush)
  • Alice Cooper (God)
  • Bishop Briggs (Singer, Songwriter)
  • Tosin Abasi (Master Guitarist)

The winner(s) of No Cover’s first season will win a massive prize pack, including a recording contract with Sumerian Records, booking agency representation from UTA, management from the Shelter Music Group, high-profile festival slots via Danny Wimmer Presents, studio time at Nightbird Recording Studios, new gear from Gibson, brand endorsements, licensing opportunities and more.

Check out a trailer for 'No Cover' below. I will definitely be watching, will you? Best of luck to Michigan's own The Native Howl.
