Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert and Platinum Equity Founder/ Detroit Pistons Owner Tom Gores are teaming up to try to bring a Major League Soccer franchise to Detroit.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the two are seeking investors to partner in the project.

Their plan is to build a soccer stadium at a site to still be determined.

Possible sites mentioned are the old Wayne County Jail site near Greektown, the Detroit riverfront or Corktown area.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber said earlier this month that Detroit is on the list for expansion.  The league currently has 20 teams and they want to expand to 28.

Atlanta and Minnesota are getting teams next year.  L.A. and Miami are expected to get teams in 2018.   Sacramento is likely for 2020.  That leaves three spots so we will see if Detroit ends up with a team in the future.
