Each year, a company called Highland Titles has their own "Global Accent Battle," to find out who has the best (and worst) accent in the world according to Americans.

Americans were polled, and given examples of each accent from around the world. Results showed a lot about our own preferences, and even a popular Michigan accent is seen as one of the least attractive in the world.

Highland Titles polled 1,000 people in the States to find their perceptions on different national and foreign accents. The compiled results show that Americans are NOT fans of most of our own accents.

The list of Least Attractive accents is as follows:

  1. New York
  2. Boston
  3. American Midwestern
  4. Canadian
  5. American Southern
  6. Spanish
  7. German
  8. Yorkshire

So when it comes to this, sadly, Michigan is subject to being part of the American Midwest, and these people said "Yeah, No" to our beloved regional dialect.

Apparently "Ope" isn't the sexiest thing you can say while just, scoochin' past somebody at the Meijer.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Most Attractive accents are all from outside the States:

  1. Australian
  2. Scottish
  3. London
  4. Irish
  5. French
  6. Italian
  7. Welsh
  8. Brummie

Scottish is an interesting one, since I've seen videos of them try to say "Purple Burglar Alarm" on tiktok, and find that the least attractive sound in the world. And I'm sure the fact that HIghland Titles being a company that sells land in Scotland has NOTHING to do with how high they are on the list.

But I digress, clearly the Americans polled prefer foreign accents to our own. Australia is at, or near the top of nearly every "positive" category like most attractive, charming, and romantic.

One positive to take away from this, though, the American Midwestern Accent was picked as the third-most laid-back accent, which means people see us as pretty chill, cool people. Which I'd say we are.
