Local Man Loses $26,000 To Shocking Cyber Scam
There is a new cyber scam that is going around Michigan that has even caught cyber security experts a little off guard, which has led to people losing thousands of dollars, including one man from Royal Oak.
A grandfather out of Royal Oak, Michigan, is apparently the latest victim of a scam where he recently lost $26,000.

WDIV Local 4 Detroit recently reported about a 70 year-old man who, right after his birthday, lost all of his savings because of a scam. The GoFundMe details the sad story of the scam:
RIGHT AFTER HIS BIRTHDAY, they were victims of a devastating bank scam that wiped out one of my dad's accounts in a single day. It was insane. It was money he had worked so hard to put away. He also feels absolutely horrible about this happening to him. We've spoken with the banks and police, but having any chance of getting any of the money back is slim to none.
Currently, the GoFundMe is at 70% of its goal, having raised nearly $16,000 of the 23,000 they are trying to get back. It’s especially hard considering the man’s wife has advanced Parkinson’s disease, and the man himself had a heart attack, which almost took his life at 48 years old.
The GoFundMe was set up by their daughter, who is just trying to raise enough money to restore the amount that was stolen:
They are proud people who always manage on their own and never ask for help, but this situation is more than they can handle alone. If you are able to help—whether by donating, sharing this fundraiser, or simply sending words of encouragement—it would mean the world to my family.
