For those who are experiencing unemployment, this is a scary time to be in a situation where you are out of a job. Every day we hear about massive government layoffs, as well as major stores declaring bankruptcy.

It’s an uncertain financial time, but luckily, there are things that are put into place for those who are currently collecting unemployment, which will help them get insurance coverage during the time they are not working.

These laws have been in effect for a long time, and it seems as though there are some changes that are coming to Michigan’s unemployment insurance laws, which will change the landscape for those who use the services.

Luckily, for those who are currently unemployed and get insurance through the state, the timeline of those benefits seem to be extending.

Not only extending but residents who collect those benefits will also see an increase in their benefit amount, which is expected to go into effect on April 2, 2025, according to Wood TV.

The maximum number of weeks that benefits can be collected will jump from 20 to 26. The maximum benefit amount will increase in phases over the next three years, rising from $362 to $446 in 2025 and ultimately reaching $614 by 2027. The maximum benefit amount per dependent is also going up, reaching $12.66 this year. That number will increase to $19.33 by next year and up to $26 by 2027.

This increase is said to have been the first one in 23 years, which will come in huge for those who depend on it and their families.
