My wife and I recently went to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to ride the Agawa Canyon Tour Train and to see Agawa Canyon Park.

If you are not familiar with this tour it is very popular in the fall as many ride the train to check out the fall colors.  My wife and I decided on taking the all day tour recently on our summer vacation.

The train starts in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and heads 114 miles north into Agawa Canyon.  The train ride takes 4 hours to get to the canyon and 4 hours to get back.  You get out of the train in the canyon and get an hour and a half to explore the park.

Along the train ride, there is a video that will pop up at times telling you the history of the area and various things to look out for during the trip.

Along the way you will see many lakes, fishing cottages, a ski resort and a huge trestle over the Montreal River.

Once you get to the canyon park you can eat lunch on the many picnic tables around the park, hike and check out the 300 stairs lookout (my wife and I passed on this).

There are also a couple of waterfalls that you can hike to.  North and South Black Beaver Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls.  The hour and a half gave us enough time to walk around the park and hike out to both falls and make it back in time for the train departure.

I'm sure this is a totally different experience in the fall when the colors change but my wife and I really enjoyed it.   The ride is long but it is worth it to take the Agawa Canyon Train Tour.
