Roosevelt Elementary School in Battle Creek is officially up for sale after being closed to the public for 20 years.

The school, which is located at 485 Southwest Capitol Ave. in Battle Creek, closed as a public school in 2005.

Since then, it’s been used as a community space and a church, but now someone has the opportunity to own the property, and the price really isn’t even that bad.

This 26,631 four-level school building sits on 1.87 acres and was built in 1912 and added to in 1962. There is plenty of room to expand on the property and the building has character and charm. Roosevelt Elementary Schools don’t seem to have much luck here in Michigan, as a school with the same name located in West Bloomfield/Keego Harbour closed down in 2022 and was demolished in 2025.

I did notice in the photos that there was a large room with a stage, so one could argue that this might make for an innovative space to create and also serve as a music or performance venue. There's also the concern that because it's so old, a new buyer could demolish to make way for a new building and business.
